Our brief history

Immediately after the war, organisation of forest management began with establishing management sections in each of the 17 state forests directorates. By orders of the Minister of Forestry of 23 November 1955, No. 413–227 there were15 bureaus for forest management and geodesy established in Białystok, Toruń, Gdańsk, Katowice, Radom, Szczecinek, Kraków, Lublin, Łódź, Olsztyn, Poznań, Przemyśl, Gorzów Wielkopolski, Siedlce and Brzeg. From 1 October 1956, the country-wide state enterprise took the common name of the Bureau for Forest Management and Forestry Projects. Although the offices still remained under the administration of the State Forests, it was an important step towards both making the forest management service independent and creating an autonomous enterprise. As a result of the changes in legislative tasks, on 1 January 1973, the name of the enterprise was changed to the Bureau for Forest Management and Geodesy (abbreviated to BULiGL in Polish). On 30 September 1996, the function of the founding body and thus supervision over BULiGL was taken over by the Minister of the State Treasury, and the Bureau was included in the group of enterprises of special importance for the state economy. Since 1 January 2017, the founding authority has been the Minister responsible for the environment.
