Research

The Bureau for Forest Management and Geodesy is a partner of scientific centres in the implementation of research projects, carried out particularly in the field of forest sciences. We cooperate on a permanent basis with the Forestry Faculties at the University of Agriculture in Kraków (abbreviated in Polish to UR Kraków), the University of Life Sciences in Poznań, Warsaw University of Life Sciences, and the Forest Research Institute (abbreviated in Polish to IBL). Our employees are experts in their respective fields, participating in research studies carried out by other institutions, including Warsaw University, Warsaw University of Technology, and Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań. Our participation in COST actions allows us to exchange experience with international groups of scientists and experts. One example is the forestry-relevant initiative CA 15226 – Climate Smart Forestry in Mountain Regions (CLIMO), which analyses the problem of climate change in mountain regions of Europe.

Among interesting research projects that have been implemented with our participation recently, the following are worth noticing:

  • Current and potential productivity of Poland’s forest habitats for the main forest-forming species (UR Kraków – IBL – BULiGL, 2014–2017).
  • Methodological basis for the development and implementation of the water resources management plan in lowland forests at a Forest District scale (IBL – BULiGL consortium, 2014–2017).
  • Analysis of possible accuracy improvement whilst defining forest value traits of stands in forest management works using modern geomatic techniques (BULiGL – TaxusIT, 2015–2019).
  • Monitoring and assessment of forest condition in the Sudetes (BULiGL, 2021-2023).
  • Forest dieback risk models for the main forest-forming species of Poland (UR Kraków – BULiGL, 2022–2024).
  • Volume increment models of the main forest-forming species of Poland (UR Kraków – BULiGL, 2022–2024).
  • We invite research centres in the field of natural sciences to cooperate. Our experts bring extensive practical experience and considerable expertise to research projects.
